Survey coding is the process of taking the open-end responses and categorizing them into groups. Once coded, they can be analyzed in the same way single and multiple response questions can be.
The process of coding verbatim responses requires an understanding of the survey, understanding of the topic and mastery of language. Automated coding has some cost advantages in one word answer surveys, but understanding the selection of words conveyed and the construction of sentences offered requires by-hand reading. Our experienced coders are all college level researchers who read through the entire survey material first including the questionnaire and project management materials to understand why the survey is in the field.
All coding is reviewed by our Quality Control Department and passed for completeness and accuracy. Additionally, our tabulation and weighting experts can read these responses back into your data allowing you a complete evaluation of your study.
